Spider facts:

All spiders can make a web which is their main method of catching their food. The silk of spiders looks weak, but is 5 times stronger than steel wire of comparable thickness! Male spiders love to dance to impress a female spider. However, if she is not impressed by his mating dance, he runs the risk of being attacked and eaten.

Officially a spider is not even an insect. Spiders are arachnids. Different to insects they have only two parts to the body, eight legs instead of six and six or eight eyes instead of two. The Scientific Name is Araneae. They are carnivores and eat large numbers of insects, like flies, wasps and ladybugs. Spiders wrap their edible pray in silk. There are a lot of different sizes of spider, they vary from 0.02–3.5 inches. The spider lifespan can vary as much as the spider life cycle. Most spiders live about two years, but some have been known to live up to 20 years when in captivity. Female spiders tend to live longer than male spiders. Many male spiders reach maturity within two years and die after mating.
