Mosasaurus facts:
The Mosasaurus was a large aquatic reptile that lived in the Cretaceous Era about 83 to 66 million years ago. It is believed to be one of the largest marine predators of its time, with its length over 15 meters long.
The first fossil remains of the Mosasaurus were found on the banks of the river Meuse (Latin: Mosa), to which this saurian owes its name. Mosasaurus literally means “Lizard of the Meuse River.” These fossil remains were found in 1764. This makes the Mosasaurus one of the first dinosaurs to be discovered. Because of the wide range they swam in the ocean, fossil remains were found all around the world. Examples of continents include Africa, Europe, North America, South America and even Antarctica!
